My background in mathematics will help me to understand budgets and ask important questions of staff to insure money is being well spent. Throughout my teaching career, I was involved in the collective bargaining process. I have great respect for the collective bargaining process and I think many good solutions can be found during negotiations. Because of my experience, I can help the District work with unions to solve mutual problems that enhance student learning.
I Understand the Educational Process
I was a successful teacher for 35 years as I worked with students that had many different learning styles. I taught all levels of math from the highest level to the lowest level. This gave me a good understanding of how students learn. When I am on the Board, this understanding will help me make good decisions regarding curriculum.
It is the responsibility of the Board to provide a culture that supports student learning. They need to insure administrators are encouraging employees to reach their fullest potential. The Board needs to provide teachers with the support and materials they need so students can meet the standards set by the State and the Board.
