Senator Hayakawa, after switching political parties, was asked what the difference was between the 2 parties.  He replied with this analogy.  If a man was drowning 50 feet from shore, a Democrat would throw him 100 feet of rope.  A Republican would throw him 25 feet of rope and holler, “I’ll meet you half way”.  Notice that in both cases the man drowns.
